Defending sustainable use of resources

In the face of climate change, the linear model, based on the principle of “extract, manufacture, consume, discard”, has shown its limitations. As a responsible catering company, we have a major role to play in conserving natural resources and limiting waste. We are committed to the principles of a circular economy through sustainable sourcing, responsible consumption and recycling.

Some causes are particularly close to our hearts because they are at the heart of our activities. In particular, these include animal welfare, preservation of biodiversity, respect for natural ecosystems, sustainable use of resources, the fight against deforestation and fair trade. Behind each of these battles, we are defending our planet, human beings and our communities.

Working to protect the planet

At the heart of a large ecosystem (millions of consumers, thousands of customers and suppliers, hundreds of investors, NGOs and governments and 422,000 employees in over 50 countries), we are playing our part in protecting the planet.

As more than half of our carbon emissions are linked to our supply chain, we have defined key actions for responsible sourcing, such as:

  • Giving priority to shorter supply chains.
  • Choosing suppliers who share our values and our commitment to the environment
  • Optimizing transport and logistics.
  • Significantly increasing the proportion of plant-based foods on our plates and therefore in our purchases.

Our action goes much further, as we are also committed to combatting food waste, adopting meals based on plant proteins and managing energy responsibly.

The Animal Welfare Charter

This code of conduct for our suppliers sets out the minimum requirements for working with Sodexo. To meet these requirements, suppliers must demonstrate the principles of this charter through their own supply chain.

Strict standards must be applied at the time of breeding, during transport and at slaughter. Animals must be treated humanely according to local and national animal welfare regulations.

More than a commitment, it’s a duty to support those suppliers, farms and processing facilities that have the highest standards of animal welfare. Our action is also supported by our strategy of introducing vegetarian menus, which enable us to promote vegetarianism and plant-based proteins while reducing the amount of animal protein consumed.
